Text recognition on images and tables has been improved with automatic language detection and extended language support: Cantonese (China mainland), Cantonese (Hong Kong), Korean, Japanese, Russian, Ukrainian, Thai, Vietnamese, Arabic (Modern Standard) and Arabic (Najdi).
Minor improvement:
- Fixed a crash related to state tracking for document layout and palette position
- Fixed a crash related to updating thumbnails
- Fixes an issue where notes appear blank for a small subset of documents just after opening

The big iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 update combined with a completely new way of annotating using the Apple Pencil!
Launch the document scanner directly from the new Control Center widget or from a lock screen control by replacing the camera or torchlight buttons. Try the new app icons with a dark look that can automatically switch with Dark Mode or tint the app icon and Home Screen widget to match your favorite color.
Annotate like a pro using the new Apple Pencil Pro. Squeeze your Apple Pencil Pro to bring up a floating tool palette right where your pencil tip is. The Apple Pencil Pro provides haptic feedback when the gesture is recognized and the new hover preview lets you see the selected color and tool before your tip touches the screen.
These new Apple Pencil features require an iPad running iPadOS 17.5 or newer. Hover preview works with any Apple Pencil except the 1st generation. The floating tool palette requires an Apple Pencil Pro or the Apple Pencil 2nd generation (with the Double-tap gesture in Highlights set to Tool Palette in Settings > Apple Pencil).
