В определитель включены Сумчатые и Базидиальные грибы, наиболее широко распространенные в пределах лесной и лесостепной зон от западных границ России до Дальнего Востока. Из Сумчатых это строчки, сморчки, пецицы и трюфели, из Гастеромицетов - веселка, дождевики и ложнодождевики, из Гетеробазидиомицетов – бокальчики и дрожалки, из Афиллофоровых - трутовики, ежовики и рогатики, из Болетовых - маслята, моховики, белые, подберезовики, подосиновики и свинушки, из Рядовковых - говорушки, рядовки, опята, мицены, негниючники, чесночники и вешенки, из Агариковых - мухоморы, поплавки, шампиньоны, навозники, чешуйчатки и паутинники, из Сыроежковых - сыроежки, грузди и млечники. Для каждого гриба приведены фотографии, рисунки, описания внешнего вида, мест обитания, сроки плодоношения, ареал, пищевые свойства, отличия от сходных видов.
